Made another visit to the hospital today and your boys' toys
were a huge hit. I was by myself this time because none of
the others in our group were able to attend. I wound up spending
time with every child at their bedside and showing them how
to work their new cars, crayons, paints, etc. I started in
the girls ward and worked my way over to the boys. Unfortunately,
the boys ward had filled up since my last visit. Even without
asking the doctor, it is quite obvious that virtually all
of these kids are in there because they either picked up or
stepped too close to a land mine. The smiles and laughs are
as genuine as any I have ever seen. I still cannot put into
words how much these otherwise insignificant items mean to
these kids and their parents. They know when we walk through
the door that good things are about to happen. Even the expressions
on the faces of the mothers are pretty special to behold.
You just get the feeling that they have waited for so long
to see a little joy in their kids' faces.
